How a simple bike ride became a movement
Summer of 2014 marked the beginning of something special. What started as a simple gathering of pastors for formal meetings soon took an unexpected and refreshing turn—we were encouraged to step outside, and mountain biking became our shared passion. It brought excitement, renewed energy, and a sense of life and health to all of us.
Before long, we began scheduling regular weekly rides. We invested in better bikes, believing it would be worth the time and the cost—and truly it was. Along the trails, we met new friends and fellow riders, but more importantly, we grew closer to one another. What began as colleagues in ministry evolved into deep, lifelong friendships.
Now more than a decade later, we can clearly see how this journey has impacted us—physically, emotionally and spiritually. We’ve had the privilege of exploring the beautiful trails of San Diego County, and along the way, a greater vision was born. We felt a calling to give back—to support and help maintain the trails that has given us so much, to encourage others to pursue health and community in the outdoors, and to invest in something bigger than ourselves. From our humble beginnings, we have now stepped forward to be an establish non-profit organization in the State of California. Through this, we aim to support local trails and races, inspire others to embrace the outdoors, and even extend our mission beyond borders through outreach and mission trips. What started as a ride….has become a purpose.
Our goal is to foster a community where everyone can ride together and form genuine friendships, recognizing that healthy shepherds lead healthy flocks.

The pastors who started it all
I love being outdoors—mountain biking is one of those places where I feel closest to God.
Whether I’m riding Daley Ranch, my go-to spot, or out at my all time favorite at Big Laguna Trail, it just resets everything for me. It reminds me how big God is—and how intentional He is with every detail.
That’s why I’m so excited about this. As President and Co-Founder of Pastors Behind Bars, I really believe we’re doing more than riding—we’re creating space for connection, for healing, and for purpose.
And we’re just getting started.
One of the riders of Pastors Behind Bars and currently pastoring God’s New Wineskin Church in San Diego. Being part of Pastors Behind Bars gives me a different way to express myself outside the church and behind the pulpit. It’s a place where I find genuine camaraderie and friendships with no pretenses.
I love exploring the different trails San Diego has to offer, enjoying nature while riding alongside my fellow pastors – challenging ourselves and navigating diverse terrains.
One of my favorite trails is Daley Ranch, where reaching the summit rewards you with an overview of San Diego. I also currently serve as the Secretary of Pastors Behind Bars.
Im a husband and a proud father of five. I pastor the River of Faith Church in Mira mesa and I love mountain biking! My favorite trail is Aliso Canyon Woods and I enjoy the company of my friend pastors exploring new trails and meeting new people along the way! Hope to catch you on the trails soon!
I love the outdoors, especially mountain biking. For me, the trails have become a place to pray, reflect, and enjoy God’s beautiful creation. As I climb steep hills and navigate challenging sections, I often forget the physical strain because my mind and spirit are being refreshed with new insights from the Lord. This unique blend of physical effort and spiritual stillness strengthens both my body and my soul in ways few activities can.
As the pastor of Shepherd’s Pasture Assembly, I’m grateful to be part of Pastors Behind Bars from the very beginning. It’s also a way to inspire our church toward a healthy and active lifestyle. Through these rides, we create space for genuine connection, healing, and purpose, helping one another find refreshment and renewed strength for the journey ahead.
And we’re just getting started.
Whether you’re a pastor looking for community or just curious about what happens when ministry meets mountain biking, we’d love to have you.
